Brandshare pioneered what would become the e-commerce media industry when it began as IDR Marketing Partners in 1984. Richard Guyer and his son Doug, who had graduated from Boston College the year prior, founded the company in Berwyn, Pennsylvania.
At the time, IDR worked with catalogue marketers to place branded inserts and calls to action from leading consumer marketers inside customer packages.
A decade later, when catalog marketers evolved into e-commerce retailers, IDR implemented the first-ever in-package sampling campaign for Tylenol.
Since then, Brandshare has distributed more than 2.3 billion product samples and inserts on behalf of the world’s leading brands through a network of 760 plus e-commerce retailers.
Building on its e-commerce roots, Brandshare entered a partnership with Wal-Mart Stores, Inc. in 2014 for their first-ever Walmart Beauty Box and the Walmart Online Grocery Welcome Bag. These subscription and loyalty sampling programs expanded to include the Walmart Baby Box and the Walmart Limited Edition Men’s Grooming Box.
Subsequent retailer sampling programs followed, with the ShopRite from Home Thank You Bag, the Sam’s Club Tastes & Tips Sample Bag, the Sam’s Club Caregiver Box and the soon to launch Safeway Sample Bag.
